Consultations on anti-scab legislation to amend the Canada Labour Code, included in the Liberal-NDP Confidence and Supply Agreement, were announced last year. The consultations were to begin ahead of legislation to be introduced by the end of this year.to use replacement workers, also known as “scabs,” in the event of a lockout or strike. PSAC has called for anti-scab provisions to be extended to all workers in the federal public sector.

“The Government of Canada recognizes and fully respects the right of members of a bargaining unit in a legal strike position to withdraw their services,” said Monica Granados, press secretary to Fortier in an email statement to this newspaper.Article content “Managers across the public service have been receiving many questions from their employees who are unclear about the implications should they wish to continue working, including impacts on their pay,” Granados said. “What’s more, we have seen that potentially misleading, incorrect and in some cases threatening information about participating in strike activity has been circulated publicly, for example in social media.

It’s possible that some union members have chosen to cross the picket line to work and collect their pay during the strike this week.
