An Akron man was charged Wednesday with laundering drug money by buying a $325,000 house and with fraudulently obtaining a small business loan from the federal government’s coronavirus relief funds to buy a Tesla.

Crawford is the father of Na’kia Crawford, who was fatally shot in June 2020, according to court records. Na’kia’s slaying made national headlines and drew condemnation from LeBron James, Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan and others. Loans were based on several factors that business owners faced, including how many employees they had and how much money the company made before the pandemic.
He received a $105,500 loan, and he used that money to buy a 2020 Tesla car for $118,274, according to the indictment.
