Ecojustice argues that it is imperative that the government has the tools needed to fight the growing plastic pollution crisis.

Ecojustice’s director of healthy communities program Elaine MacDonald said the judge will reserve and issue a decision at a later date. MacDonald said they are supporting the argument that plastics are a global and national concern.

However, the coalition purports that the order is unreasonable, and that the government does not have sufficient evidence that all plastic items are toxic. “The industry actors behind this case feel their implied right to profit and pollute supersedes the government’s right to regulate in the public interest,” said Lindsay Beck, a lawyer for Ecojustice.Article content
