'People rely heavily on our service. Our parents can give a real sense of what we really do - some have said that Belfast Hospital School have changed the lives of their children'
Based in the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children, the school team teaches children who are admitted to wards and would therefore be out of school for a long period of time. They may be undergoing cancer treatment, have been in a road accident, or other illnesses.
The management of the provision will "revert from the Board of Governors of the Belfast Hospital School to the Education Authority", according to the document. "Getting rid of the Board of Governors who provide that community link and expertise. I don't know why [the EA has said] 'no change', when there clearly is. Belfast Hospital School has been a proud tradition for 50 years of providing a very good service. Not many people have heard of it but it is an excellent service.
"The fear is that the ward will diminish. There is a fear that we will be drifted apart and that ETA will no longer exist. That is service that is heavily needed. "Belfast Hospital School provision has faced years of cuts, which have had a devastating impact on its pupils," he said.
