U.S. Rep. Randy Weber of Friendswood called Fauci’s announcement “GREAT news” and said the GOP would hold him “accountable.”Fauci has been a key adviser to seven presidents starting with Ronald Reagan and became the face of the U.S. response to the coronavirus outbreak in 2020, frequently appearing on TV and at White House press conferences during the Trump administration.
But Fauci fell out of favor with Trump as he continued to advocate for social distancing and masks in public settings, clashing with the former president's desire to return to normalcy and to promote unproven treatments for the virus.
