Father’s pain as daughter fights cancer | Vusumzi Lukashe is desperate to get help for his cancer-stricken teenage daughter. The 45-year-old father is appealing to South African doctors to step in and remove a tumour growing on Anesipho Gotyana’s face

Anesipho is in constant pain, cannot talk properly and struggles to eat. She depends on painkillers but the pain is relentless. This has been going on since she was discharged from Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha in January this year. Lukashe says she was sent home with Panado and morphine to manage the pain.

The Independent Clinical Oncology Network said that, depending on the cancer, treatment can cost between R10 000 and R1 million per patient per year. On its website, the centre adds that craniofacial tumours often surface as lumps or in areas with abnormal growth. When left untreated, they can cause deformities and the shifting of facial structures. It’s very sad to see her in this condition and I sometimes ask God why he didn’t put the tumour on me. She does not eat normal food and I have to feed her porridge and amahewu as those are the only things she can stomach.

“As a result, I had to go to her school to explain why she could not complete her exams because she was in so much pain.”
