“He stated before he could come to the hospital … he needed to go to the pawnshop to pick up his cellphone,” Langowski told Crown prosecutor Alexandra Russell.“He was more concerned about his cellphone.” But under cross-examination by defence lawyer Darren Mahoney, the officer said she was unaware Kurucz had outstanding arrest warrants at the time.Article content

Mahoney is challenging the admissibility of Kurucz’s statements and the observations the officers made of him at the Atlanta Crescent S.E. residence, where emergency personnel arrived to find Jayden Cyluck-Kurucz in cardiac arrest.Both Langowski and her partner, Const. Mike Wilton, said they were most concerned about getting information to assist the child when they interacted with Kurucz.

But both also told Mahoney they considered the accused to be a possible suspect since they had no knowledge of how the child was injured.
