The upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs will also reportedly feature a prominent character introduced in Fast X.

A prominent Fast X character will appear in the latest Luke Hobbs spinoff. After Dwayne Johnson appeared during Fast X's post-credits scene as Hobbs, the actor announced on Twitter that a brand-new spinoff film centered on the character is planned before Fast 11 releases. The spinoff is not going to be the sequel to Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, but will instead be set before Fast 11 to bridge the gap between it and its predecessor.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT According to a new listing from Production Weekly, the upcoming Hobbs-centered spinoff will reportedly be called Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes. This means that the movie will mainly focus on the rivalry between Luke Hobbs and Jason Momoa's Dante Reyes, which was teased during the Fast X post-credits scene.

Hobbs & Reyes Proves The Fast Saga Doesn't Want to End Despite Fast X underperforming at the box office, Universal is moving ahead with additional entries in the main Fast Saga alongside two announced spinoffs. The Fast Saga was initially slated to end with two movies, Fast X and Fast 11, which will release on April 4, 2025. However, Vin Diesel has heavily hinted that it was instead reworked as a trilogy prior to Hobbs & Reyes being announced.

Now, it seems that the Fast & Furious franchise has a hard time saying goodbye by adding another spinoff pitting Johnson and Momoa together instead of integrating them into the second part of the supposed trilogy. Beyond Hobbs & Reyes, a planned female-centered spinoff is also in the works, though it has not been officially announced, only discussed. If Fast X had made considerable money in theaters, adding more entries to the franchise would naturally make sense.

However, Fast & Furious has started to experience diminishing returns with each entry since Hobbs & Shaw. Though F9 was released during the COVID-19 pandemic and a period of diminished theater attendance, Fast X has come in behind it at the worldwide box office. The film was released on VOD a mere three weeks after it premiered in theaters, signaling that Universal wasn't confident about its performance.
