'Always laughing' Leonard Durkin's unique dying wish has become a global trend
A Leeds man has created a viral funeral trend from his grave says his son after he saw another family follow suit with a takeaway drive-through cortege.
This week, it was reported that a Brighouse family had a 73-year-old's funeral at McDonald's because their loved one would always visit the same fast food drive-through for his morning coffee."It has gone everywhere, people in America and China have got in touch with me about it. It is a great buzz seeing that everyone else is now doing the idea," Peter said.
Speaking about his dad's funeral, Peter added: "My dad was in sheltered accommodation where a lot of elderly people live. So when they attended his funeral they were all having a laugh. That's how it should be." The plan was for the entire funeral procession to follow them into the drive-through, but the other drivers headed straight for Cottingley Crematorium. Nonetheless, the stunt still drew plenty of strange looks. Leonard's daughter Julie, 43, said: "A lot of people were at the traffic lights filming."
