Asulam is used to treat bracken that could otherwise overpower hillsides used for sheep grazing.
Farmers have been denied emergency access to a banned chemical to control bracken growth in Scotland.
Farmers who want to use Asulam claim that sheep-grazing areas would become wasteland without treatment.Use of the chemical, which was banned in 2011, relies on an emergency approval being granted each year by ministers. Asulam - which is sold under the brand name Asulox - was banned by the EU because of concerns it could be an endocrine disruptor which can interfere with the body's hormones.
