Hannah Judge and her band hit a bump in the road when their van sputtered and rolled to a stop on a highway outside Mobile, Ala.
When she saw the estimate was $3,300, Judge became dejected. The tour was a big opportunity for a promising new artist and she hated to cancel shows. Then someone suggested launching an emergency crowd-funding campaign.
In the crowd-funding plea, Judge wrote of her frustration: “We’ve had to pull out of three shows now and are stranded in a town where we know no one. This is a huge and unexpected financial loss and I am honestly devastated. Anything donated goes towards replacing the parts in our van so we can do the last two shows on this run and get back to Canada safely.”Article content
Judge, who’s also a cartoonist, has been making music as fanclubwallet since 2020, taking the oddball stage name from a vintage Dennis the Menace wallet that she used in high school. She attended Canterbury High School, specializing in visual arts.Article content “Honestly, I started putting out music not expecting anyone to listen to it,” Judge said. But, with the help of her drummer, Michael Watson, who’s also a producer who knows how to release music digitally, there was a breakthrough. Two of her low-fi, tuneful songs — Interstate and Car Crash in G Major — made it to popular playlists.
