The family of a man stabbed in a random home invasion last week is speaking publicly for the first time.
Jon Wells was stabbed twice as he tried to fend off two men who barged into his Beaumont Street home around 7:30 last Monday night. He was rushed to hospital in serious condition, but is now at home recovering from both the physical and mental wounds. Well’s ex-partner and friend, Meagan Campbell, spoke to VOCM News on behalf of the family. She says the random and unprovoked nature of the attack has been a reality check for many.
Campbell says Wells and his partner are hard-working, careful people who were just spending a quiet Monday evening at home when the break-in occurred, noting the incident has stunned people to the realization that this kind of thing could happen to anyone.Two men—Jon Hurley and Justin Haynes—have been arrested and remain in custody pending court appearances next week.believed present at a second home invasion on Maunder’s Lane, which left an elderly couple shaken but otherwise unharmed.
