Fake parking notices distributed in Alief neighborhood, Houston officials say
Notices of parking changes in an Alief neighborhood, claiming residents will be fined, were reported fake on May, 3, 2023, Houston Public Works officials said.Flyers warning residents they'll be fined if they park in an Alief neighborhood are fake, Houston Public Works officials said.
The notices feature the official city of Houston seal on the left side and at the top-center,"official notice" is bolded in red, a photo shared by the department shows. Erin Jones, the department's public information officer, said the department was notified about the notices around 2 p.m. Wednesday, which were circulating around Newbrook Drive.Officials do not know the person responsible for the notices, Jones said.
There are several ways to tell if a notice is fake, she said, such as the flyer supposedly being distributed by the Department of Public Works and Engineering. The department also doesn't have a Division of Traffic and Transportation, she said. If there are projects the department is working on in the area, there will always be contact information, she said.
"We would remind people all over," Jones said, noting information can also be found on the department's social media pages. If a resident sees any suspicious notice, they should call 3-1-1, she said.
