Panyaza Lesufi says what the sports MEC said to her staff members was 'unfortunate.'

Gauteng Premier David Makhura before his State of the Province Address at the Alberton Civic Centre, Johannesburg, 18 February 2018. Picture; Nigel SibandaGauteng Premier David Makhura is set to meet with sports MEC Faith Mazibuko following the latter’s rant during an executive staff meeting at her department which was recorded and has since gone public.

MEC for education and ANC provincial deputy chairperson Panyaza Lesufi said what Mazibuko said to staffers was “unfortunate.”“It does not represent government’s stance on how to treat public servants. We believe it is regrettable. The premier has indicated he will hold a meeting with her. I believe the premier will able to resolve this before end of business today,” said Lesufi, speaking in Soweto ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s arrival to campaign on Thursday.

Two women in the meeting are heard pleading with her that the sports facilities could be constructed as long as all was done according to the law, but Mazibuko was having none of it. She demanded that the facilities be constructed because she “wants to use them to campaign to win elections”. The leaked recording was proof that Mazibuko’s department did not adhere to tender processes, said Msimanga.
