The police determined that the item reported as an explosive device was not real.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - An area covering several blocks around Moore Street in Fairbanks was closed off on the morning of Thursday, May 25, as the Fairbanks Police Department investigated a possible explosive device.

At 8:07 a.m., an employee of the Tanana Chiefs Conference Sobering Center reported what looked like a bomb in a client’s backpack, complete with sticks labeled “dynamite” and attached timers.Connecting streets were barricaded as far away as Wilbur Street. The client carrying the device had not made any threats and was asleep when the call was made. The evacuation was lifted at 10:40 a.m.

In March, FPD stopped using Nixle to send out alerts, using instead a new system called Fairbanks Safety Alerts.More information and access to sign up for alerts can be found
