With the race for Speaker of the House heating up, there are a few names being thrown into the mix for the new leader of the House.

“Temporary Step Aside of a Member of Leadership who is indicted: A Member of the Republican Leadership shall step aside if indicted for a felony for which a sentence of two or more years imprisonment may be imposed.”In order to be elected Speaker, a candidate needs to secure a simple majority of members present and voting.. However, members have the option to say “present” or not vote at all. Every time that happens, the number of votes needed to reach that threshold drops.
