Belt, who spent the first 12 years of his career and won two World Series with the Giants, faces his former team for the first time this week.

TORONTO — Brandon Belt ambled into the third-base dugout, plopped down on the bench and immediately turned a 10-minute question-and-answer session into a comedy bit. Set to face his former team for the first time, Belt is the same as he ever was, with signs from head to toe.

Belt, 35, said he left open the possibility of returning to San Francisco, the organization that drafted him and where he spent the first 12 years of his big-league career, winning two World Series rings, up until the day he signed a one-year, $9.3 million contract with Toronto. The Giants, however, were clearly happy to move on with LaMonte Wade Jr., whose stellar defense and on-base skills mimics Belt — on the field, at least — in many ways.

“I mean, we definitely miss him,” said shortstop Brandon Crawford, Belt’s longest-tenured teammate. “He was really good at always keeping it light and joking around. We still have guys that do that, fortunately, like Joc. But we definitely miss him.”And that hasn’t gone away.
