“I am feeling very elated,” says Peggy Walt who called today's heritage committee meeting 'a bit of a nail-biter.' Next step is a public hearing and vote at Halifax regional council.
“I think a great many will be supportive. I certainly hope so because they’ve seen the outpouring of support,” she said.
“Hopefully, we have bought some time and we can have some discussion with the university because clearly they will see now that this is the wrong move to try to take this beautiful house down,” she said.Even if the house becomes a registered municipal heritage property, the Nova Scotia Heritage Property Act allows the owner to apply to HRM for approval to demolish it.
