MENLO PARK — Facebook app owner Meta Platforms has decided to chop thousands of jobs in the Bay Area, a fresh round of painful tech layoffs that will jolt five cities in this region, state labor officials report.
All told, the owner of the Facebook app disclosed plans to jettison 2,564 jobs in the Bay Area, according to official notices sent to the state’s Employment Development Department. The job cuts will affect workers in Menlo Park — Meta’s hometown and world headquarters and by far the hardest hit — as well as Meta Platforms employees in Sunnyvale, Fremont, Burlingame and San Francisco.
