Following pressure from the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Facebook and eBay have agreed to work harder to eliminate fake reviews from their sites

Last summer, the CMA said it had identified more than 100 eBay listings offering fake reviews for sale, as well as 26 Facebook groups offering fake reviews or recruiting people to write them., Facebook has removed 188 groups and disabled 24 user accounts, and agreed to introduce stronger systems to detect and remove this sort of content. It's updated and revised its Community Standards and Commerce Policy, and says it's testing systems to automatically detect and remove fake reviews.

"We’re pleased that Facebook and eBay are doing the right thing by committing to tackle this problem and helping to keep their sites free from posts selling fake reviews." "In response to CMA concerns Facebook disabled 24 users and eBay permanently banned 140, but this barely scratches the surface of the problem," he says.
