FILE - The Boeing logo appears above a trading post on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on March 11, 2019. Boeing has had several production problems with its 787 Dreamliner planes over the last couple years, and now you can add leaky lavatory faucets to the list. Federal regulators say, Friday, April 7, 2023, it's a safety issue because the water can get into electronic equipment bays and damage critical parts.
The Federal Aviation Administration proposed Friday to order repetitive inspections and, if leaks are found, replacing faucet parts. The move comes after reports of water from lavatories getting under the cabin floor and into electronic equipment bays. The agency said one airline found wet carpet in the cockpit of a plane and, when it inspected its entire fleet of 787s, found “multiple” planes with leaking faucets. The FAA did not identify the airline.
The FAA described the extra inspections as a temporary measure while the manufacturer redesigns the faucet modules.
