As we settle into the new year with a vastly different reality, it is good to know that there are some things from our pre-pandemic lives that we can still enjoy the same way as before

is set to complete its season, after the last Covid-19 wave abruptly shut down productions. Now it returns with Krotoa: Eva van de Kaap, which opens later in February, with actress Bianca Flanders reprising her role in the critically acclaimed theatre piece.

Krotoa Eva van de Kaap is the thought-provoking story of a young Dutch slave who carves herself a niche in history. Photo: Supplied Despite her critical role in negotiations, in 1669, Krotoa was unjustly banished to Robben Island for what was deemed immoral and disorderly behaviour. It is said that the trauma of years of enslavement resulted in her becoming an alcoholic. Krotoa died on the island five years later.

Through the meticulous portrayal of Flanders, a seasoned and talented actress who received her BA in theatre and performance from the University of Cape Town, we get to see and hear the story of Krotoa truly unfold. She rose to prominence after appearing in award-winning films such as District 6 and Niqabi Ninja.
