All you need to know about transfer deadline day in the Premier League, across Europe and beyond
Asked if he thought it was fair that Saudi sides could do business beyond the Premier League deadline, “No. Because they are now a competitor, I think we have to change that.”When attempting to conclude a deal in the minutes and hours before the deadline, Premier League clubs are sometimes in a race to finalise the paperwork.
As long as the deal itself has been agreed between all parties before the 11pm deadline, the clubs can submit a ‘deal sheet’ to the Premier League stating they need an extension — a maximum of two hours.For this window, that would give them until 1am BST on Saturday, September 2 to complete and submit the full paperwork.
However, for international transfers, the FIFA Transfer Matching System takes precedence and that has a deadline of midnight.Players without clubs — free agents, as they are often known — can make moves at any time.If deals don’t get done, or clubs realise they need more reinforcements, they will have to wait until the winter transfer window opens on January 1.
