It seems like temperatures have been dropping by the day as Met Eireann confirm the cold snap is set to remain for the rest of the week.
With the possibility of a white Christmas on the cards, how do we know if the snow will actually stick? It’s not often we have snow over the winter in Ireland, and when we do, it’s not unusual for it to be more sleet like and melt as soon as it hits the ground. Speaking to RSVP Live, they told us: “As long as the ground temperature drops to freezing or below, then snow can stick. Sometimes heavy snow can bring the ground temperature down to freezing quite quickly.”
If you are wondering whether your county will have a white Christmas this year, research from Legacy has revealed the counties with the highest likelihood of snow this December 25th, and Donegal and Tyrone are tied for the top spot with a likelihood of 60%.
