'These things aren't really everyday things that I work with.'

The Colchester Historeum reused its parade float piece as an opportunity piece for photos.- Chelsey GouldTRURO, N.S. — Things are looking a little festive inside the Colchester Historeum with a Christmas exhibit of vintage holiday items

“These things aren't really everyday things that I work with up in the collection,” said Neil. “So it was really nice to kind of pull them out and see what we have in terms of Christmastime.” “It was because he was a socialite and he didn't want to write a ton of letters,” said Neil. “There were too many letters to write to too many friends. So he commissioned someone to make a painting, then mass produced it, and he sent it out to his friends.”

On Dec. 14, the Historeum featured the exhibit during a social event to celebrate the holidays with the community. Hot chocolate, Belliveau’s hot apple cider and homemade cookies brought great comfort and a gift basket with donations from local businesses was won by Stacey Culgin. “We fill the room with Christmas decorations and toys from the collection,” said Maher. “But that's lovely, to see a sampling of the things that you have,” she said to Neil.
