New social enterprise, vocational training centre could be open by late September

Kelly wasn’t at liberty to discuss sale details because it had yet to be finalized, but said the buildings were on the market for only four days before The Flower Cart received a conditional offer of purchase for both.He said proceeds from the sale would be used as The Flower Cart’s own contribution to the Building Opportunities capital campaign to pay for the organization’s new social enterprise and vocational training facility.

The original capital campaign goal was $5.8 million but Kelly said in late November that, due to inflation, the overall price tag would likely be between $6.2 million and $6.4 million. Mid-August is the current projected completion date for The Flower Cart Group’s new social enterprise and vocational training centre in New Minas. KIRK STARRATTKelly said it has become a regular occurrence for groups of program participants to walk over to the new site to see the progress. On April 20, a group from The Flower Cart’s bakery went to have a look.

“It seems like they’ve got quite a lot of work done,” MacLeod said. “It seems to be coming along pretty good by the looks of it.” He said there have been some delays with getting rooftop heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units fabricated. The current projected completion date for the building is mid-August.

He said they are now planning for the flooring and are going through furniture needs and requests for the new facility.
