Several ceremonial pottery vessels that also were unearthed are linked with the worship of Demeter, the ancient Greek goddess of agriculture, and to her daughter Persephone. The ancient capital of Kythnos, Vryokastro, was inhabited between the 12th century B.C. and the 7th century A.D.
