An ex-Rangers player will perform at a special Christmas concert for charity.

Gordon Smith, who played for the Ibrox side in the late 1970s, will sing alongside performing arts students for Spirit of Christmas, an evening of festive cheer in aid of Muscular Dystrophy UK .

Funds raised from the concert, hosted annually by Stagecoach Performing Arts School, will go towards helping scientists find treatments and cures for the muscle-wasting disease, as well as providing support to the 110,000 people across the UK living with it. The event will be held at Broom Parish Church in Newton Mearns on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3, with MDUK Ambassador Gordon addressing the audience on the Saturday performance.

Jodie Whitham, MDUK’s regional development manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland said: “The Spirit of Christmas always feels like the start of the festive season and it’s a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit – a night of uplifting“It’s truly joyful, with so many people giving their time to help us raise awareness and raise funds for people living with muscle-wasting conditions.Doors will open at 5.30pm, with performances beginning at 6pm.

Tickets will be available to purchase on the door, priced at £10 per adult, £5 per child or concession, and a family ticket covering two adults and two children costs £25.
