A former Idaho state lawmaker who was charged with rape after a Statehouse intern reported that he sexually assaulted her last year has taken the stand to testify in his defense

BOISE, Idaho — — A former Idaho state lawmaker accused of raping a Statehouse intern last year took the stand Thursday to testify in his defense.
The Associated Press generally does not identify people who say they have been sexually assaulted, and has referred to the woman in this case as “Jane Doe” at her request. “I would submit that there’s no testimony from Ms. Wardle that did nothing other than make excuses for why she didn’t want to do it," Cox said. “I don’t think that rises to the level of being against her will — she didn’t say, 'Don’t do that, I don’t want that.'”
