The Australian, who spent three years with the Hoops, popped into Bella Vita in Glasgow, delighting staff. The 40-year-old posed for pictures and signed photos for the staff.

Ex-Celtic star Scott McDonald made an unexpected appearance at a Glasgow restaurant earlier this week, with the whole family in tow.

The Australian, who spent three years with the Hoops from 2007 to 2010, popped into Bella Vita on Tuesday, accompanied by his wife and three children. He was welcomed by delighted staff who were quick to snap pictures of him. The 40-year-old posed alongside pictures of him in his Celtic strip as well as signing photos for the staff. He was described as a "loyal patron" to the Mosspark restaurant, adding that he had "one of the most caring and kindest families".READ MORE: Glasgow single dad with two young kids stuck in one bedroom flat after partner's sudden death

Sharing the moment on social media, Bella Vita wrote: "Was brilliant getting to see my good friend Scott McDonald, Claire and the kids . Through the years you’ve been a loyal patron in all my restaurants, a brilliant guest at the Italian awards and I even had the privilege of going to your family events.

"One of the most caring and kindest families I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and you all never fail to put a smile on my face. I’m sure we’ll catch up again soon and I look forward to it a lot."Join Glasgow Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages
