Haven for Hope CEO working to keep up with rising demand for homeless services in San Antonio
of people needing help. With no beds to spare, hundreds slept on mats on the floor. And Kim Jefferies, who stepped in as the nonprofit’s president and CEO just over a year ago, said she’s expecting a similar surge this Christmas season.
“We never turn a family away,” Jefferies said. “If they come to Haven, any time day or night, we’re going to take them. We’re going to find a spot for them. And then we help them get housed as quickly as possible.” “I grew up in the church, volunteering, doing things. I’ve always gravitated toward people that have disabilities, the less fortunate,” she said. “I have two daughters of my own. They’ve seen me work hard and give back to others, and they have that same kind of spirit.”
