A bailiff attended a former church in Lowertown, now home to The United People of Canada (TUPOC) threatening to change the church\u0027s locks

“Yesterday we had a bailiff come and try to throw around a piece of paper to say that we’re to go,” said Diane Nolan, one of the directors of TUPOC, in an interview outside the former St. Brigid’s church site which the group now refers to as “the embassy.” “The bailiff came and the police came … the police were fine with us. We provided the insurance certificate, we provided all the information. The police are working on it right now.

Komer said the event precipitated due to rising tensions between TUPOC and its landlord after the organization raised concerns about “breaches of the Ontario Human Rights Code by the property owners, including, but not limited to, what we understand to be unlawful reprisal against us for refusing to discriminate against people based on their creed.”

Ottawa police said officers were called to the building at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday as part of a dispute between the landlord and tenant.OPP investigating incidents of 'racist and homophobic' graffiti in Perth dating back to July TUPOC supporters at the St. Brigid’s site on Thursday morning said they had stayed awake most of the night, watching for the bailiff.

As Nolan spoke to the media on Thursday morning, two people who live in the area began to argue with the TUPOC supporters.
