The highly-anticipated second series of Bloodlands will be back on our screens tonight as we catch up with the dirty dealings of DCI Tom Brannick.

The first series of the gritty police drama that is set and filmed in Northern Ireland launched with an average of 8.2 million viewers and was Northern Ireland’s most-watched BBC drama launch on record.

By the end of episode 3, the police's fingers were pointing firmly at DCS Jackie Twoney, while the audience's fingers were pointing at DCI Tom Brannick, played by James Nesbitt. When Tori declares that she's going to hand in the gun that Tom used to kill Adam Cory, he puts a quick-thinking plan in motion which sees Tori get executed by IRA man/businessman Pat Keenan, who then meets the same fate at the hands of Tom himself - which he claims was self-defence.

What can we expect from series two of Bloodlands? A description of the plot of the second series reads: "When the murder of a crooked accountant unravels a trail of greed that threatens to expose his identity as legendary assassin, Goliath, Tom and the accountant’s widow, Olivia , must keep each other dangerously close.

Nesbitt was captured earlier this year filming in Portaferry and Belfast's Cathedral Quarter area - however, none of the shots gave away any major plot spoilers.
