The first and last papal visit to Quebec was in 1984, when Pope John Paul II drew an estimated 350,000 people to a mass in Montreal\u0027s Jarry Park.
On Friday at 9 a.m., he is to hold a private meeting with members of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, at the Archbishop’s residence in Quebec City. At 10:45 a.m., the Pope is to meet with a delegation of Indigenous peoples from Eastern Canada at the residence. He departs Quebec City at 12:45 p.m., heading to his last stop — Iqaluit, Nunavut, where he will spend several hours before returning to the Vatican.
At Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, 1,600 people will be permitted inside the church, with about 10,000 watching on screens outside. Seventy per cent of tickets are reserved for Indigenous peoples.
