The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild won the 2024 Atlantic major under-18 hockey championship on April 7. The Wild topped the Nova Scotia-champion Halifax McDonalds 10-0 to win the franchise’s first Atlantic championship since relocating to Kensington for the 2013-14 season. The Wild also becomes the first P.E.I. major under-18 team to win an Atlantic championship since the Cornwall Thunder defeated the Dartmouth Subways 3-1 in the 2004 final.The win avenged the Wild’s loss to the McDonalds in the final of the 2019 Atlantic championship in Charlottetown. The Wild moves on to represent the Atlantic region at the Telus Cup Canadian under-18 hockey championship in Membertou, N.S., from April 22 to 28. Before a big crowd at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz, N.S., including a busload of Wild fans, Kensington goaltender George Gallant capped an outstanding tournament with a 43-save shutout.
Offensively, Matt McDonald scored a hat trick to lead the Wild. Isaac Taweel , Ethan Dickson , Derek Andrews , Michael Arsenault , Ayden MacKay and Liam Arsenault scored for the Wild.The Wild recorded 44 shots on the Halifax goal.Gallant was named the most valuable player while Ethan Dickson received the award for the tournament’s top scorer. Eddy Doyle was named the top defenceman and Liam Arsenault was selected as the top forward.
