Help is available for people most in need
Making ends meet continues to be a struggle for millions of Brits across the country as energy, household, fuel and retail bills remain high thanks to the cost of living crisis. But there is help available for people most in need, largely in the form of financial support from the government, with several cash boosts to be dished out to eligible people this month.
Cold Weather Payment: You may get a Cold Weather Payment if you’re getting certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest. You’ll get a payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees or below over seven consecutive days. The discount will be applied to your household electricity bill for six months starting in October 2022. You’ll get:
You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity and you’re eligible. Contact your supplier to find out. It is important to remember that the discount will not affect your Cold Weather Payment or Winter Fuel Payment. You can still qualify for the discount if you use a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meter. Your electricity supplier can tell you how you’ll get the discount if you’re eligible, for example a voucher you can use to top up your meter.
