To add insult to injury, on October 13, almost all the premium screens will be taken away from The Exorcist and given to The Eras Tour. Swifties will understandably want the best screens and sound set-ups for their concert film, but this will no doubt damage The Exorcist's box office, as it was set to run on those screens for most of the Halloween month.
3 Dumb Money After The Exorcist: Believer fled to October 6, Swift's Eras Tour movie scared off another October release. Craig Gillespie's Dumb Money also moved up a week to September 29. The financial dramedy premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to strong reviews. The release date was moved in the hopes of Dumb Money building good word of mouth and getting a healthy box office haul before The Eras Tour takes up screening rooms in theaters.
1 The Marsh King’s Daughter In lockstep with What Happens Next, the Daisy Ridley-led thriller The Marsh King's Daughter has moved from October 13 to November 3. Directed by Neil Burger and based on a New York Times best-selling novel, this is the type of film that could become a surprise hit at the fall box office. That will be hard to do with Swift in theaters at the same time. By November 3, there should be more breathing room for a theatrical release like this.
