Growing 50-acre fire along Highway 4 poses ‘no threat’ to Crockett or Port Costa, officials say
CROCKETT — A 125-acre fire along Highway 4, near Crockett and Port Costa, is at 75 percent containment, officials announced Monday evening.
The news of the containment came a little after 8 p.m., roughly a half-hour after an evacuation warning was issued on both sides of the highway near Port Costa. The evacuation warning is not the same as a mandatory evacuation, but it does mean officials have determined the blaze poses a “potential threat to life and property, those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.”
The Franklin Fire started around 6:30 p.m. Monday, west of Cummings Skyway. Firefighters from Crockett/Rodeo/Hercules Fire, Con Fire, Cal Fire, and Pinole fire departments are responding and the fire is being fought by air. Traffic along Highway 4 has slowed due to the blaze. The cause of the fire — which occurred amidst record-setting high temperatures around the Bay Area — has not yet been determined.
