Barnier says May has to prove Brexit delay is ‘useful’ and warns ‘uncertainty costs’
The EU chief negotiator has said that any extension to Article 50 has to be ‘useful’ and warned it would cause ‘uncertainty’.leaders will have to assess ‘the reason and the usefulness’ of any request by Theresa May to extend the Article 50 withdrawal process.
Barnier told a news conference in Brussels today: ‘The EU leaders will need a concrete plan for the UK in order for them to be able to make an informed decision. Barnier said that in making the decision, EU leaders would have to assess what is in the best interests of the EU.He continued: ‘Will the UK request an extension because it wants more time to rework the political declaration?
