EU green-lights 21mn in aid for 2022 Marche floods

- ROME, SEP 18 - European Union member states have given the go-ahead for payment of 20.9 million euros in aid to Italy following the flood emergency that hit the central Marche region in September 2022, a European Council statement said on Monday.

The financial assistance, to be disbursed from the European Solidarity Fund, is part of a larger package of 454.8 million euros of aid also earmarked for Romania in response to damage caused by natural disasters in 2022, and for Turkey following the earthquakes in February 2023, the statement added.

In September 2022 the Marche were hit by violent storms and flash floods that left 13 people dead, displaced hundreds from their homes and caused billions of euros of damage. .
