Two unions have alleged that eThekwini Municipality suspended and dismissed their members over the illegal Samwu strike.
Two unions claim that eThekwini Municipality suspended and terminated their members during the illegal South African Municipal Workers Union strike, even though they didn’t take part.Non striking employees at eThekwini have been dismissed for not being part of the strike.the Independent Municipal & Allied Trade Union and Municipal and Allied Trade Union of South Africa said they did not support the strike, but their members had also been punished.
On Wednesday, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda informed the media that Samwu had agreed on Tuesday to end their violent strike and discuss salaries with the city. Municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana refused to comment on Imatu and Matusa’s claims.
