An increasing number of seasoned and wealthy investors are increasing their exposure to ETFs, an asset class that has been typically associated with the young.

Commonwealth Private CIO Jason Todd says the bank uses ETFs across its portfolios with a focus on core equities, thematic investments and fixed income. “There’s not a lot of clean exposure in the fixed income space, so ETFs help solve a portfolio construction challenge for us,” Todd says. Todd also points to ETFs as “the easiest way to get pure duration exposure” in fixed income. “Broadly speaking, we have to think how we want exposure across the curve – from ultra-long through to the short-end. The growing range of ETFs, plus other fixed income tools, give us more options to solve this portfolio construction challenge.
