MLB hasn't had a repeat champion since 2000, but ESPN's Michael Kay and Alex Rodriguez...

ESPN/Fox analyst Alex Rodriguez declared the Astros"head and shoulders above any team." as they try to become MLB's first repeat champion since 2000.For nearly a quarter-century, trying to repeat as World Series champions has become the equivalent of Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the hill, only to come up short.

On a media conference call Tuesday promoting the upcoming season of the network’s “KayRod Cast” alternate Sunday night telecast, Kay and Rodriguez were bullish on the Astros’ chances of becoming the first repeat champion since the Yankees won three straight from 1998 to 2000. Not even the loss of star second baseman and leadoff hitter Jose Altuve for likely two months with a fractured thumb dampened Kay’s enthusiasm.

When asked what could prevent the Astros from repeating, Kay pointed to the loss of Justin Verlander in free agency after five-plus years in Houston. During the three full seasons Verlander pitched for the Astros, he twice won the American League Cy Young Award.
