Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from 4pm on Sunday until 5am on Monday, followed by stage 4 between 5am and 4pm on Monday.
According to a statement released by Eskom, breakdowns currently stand at 18 016 MW of generating capacity. 3 987 MW of generating capacity is out of service for planned maintenance.
‘During the last 24 hours, a generating unit at Kriel Power Station has returned to service. In the same period, two other generation units at Kriel and a unit at Matla power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns,’ the power utility said. The restart of units at Arnot, Camden, Kendal, Hendrina and Tutuka power stations has also been delayed. This adds to the capacity constraints that already exist. This adds to the existing capacity constraints.
According to the statement, a team is working around the clock to ensure that generating units are back in service as soon as possible. Eskom called on South Africans to use electricity ‘sparingly and efficiently’ and stated that actions such as switching off geysers from 5pm to 9pm can help alleviate pressure on the power system.
