Eskom has objected to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa issuing licences to private suppliers in regions where its distribution division holds a licence.on Thursday, July 18, 2024, to consider granting various private entities generation, trading, and import-export licences.
“This arrangement will result in two or more licensees supplying in the same areas or to customers within another licensee’s area of supply,” she added. “We don’t object to the amendment of the rules, and as Eskom, we will participate should a need arise for Eskom to comment on the new rules that may allow traders to get a licence within a licensee’s area of supply,” she stated.
