Stage 1 and 3 load shedding will be implemented until further notice in order to replenish emergency reserves, Eskom said on Monday.

The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Kendal, Matimba and Tutuka, Power Stations is contributing to the current capacity constraints, Eskom said.Stage 3 load shedding will continue to be implemented until 05:00 on Sunday. Thereafter, Stage 1 will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00, followed by Stage 3 until 05:00 on Monday. Stage 1 will then be implemented until 16:00 on Monday.

Eskom said that breakdowns were at 15 050MW of generating capacity while planned maintenance had been increased this week to 4 434MW. Eskom usually limits the amount of planned maintenance in winter to be lower than this. Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said at a briefing on Sunday that Eskom was taking the opportunity to do"opportunistic" maintenance during the lower-than-expected load shedding profile.

Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Kendal, Kriel, Majuba and Medupi power stations was returned to service. "The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Kendal, Majuba and two generating units at Tutuka power stations is contributing to the current capacity constraints," Eskom said. Power utility Eskom has announced that Stage 5 load shedding will be implemented from 14:00 on Monday.

It added that From Tuesday onwards Stage 2 and 4 loadshedding will be implemented until further notice. It added that From Tuesday onwards Stage 2 and 4 loadshedding will be implemented until further notice.Due to higher than anticipated demand, Stage 5 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 today until midnight on Friday, Eskom said in a statement.

Two days after announcing an improvement to the system after several generating units returned to service at the weekend, Eskom has now announced that Stage 4 load shedding will return on Wednesday afternoon. Stage 4 will start at 16:00 and will last until 05:00 on Thursday. Eskom said it would provide further details later.

Stage 6 load shedding will continue to be implemented over the weekend in order to replenish emergency reserves, Eskom said in a statement on Thursday. "Due to the loss of additional generating units overnight, the extensive use of Open Gas Cycle Turbines and the inability to replenish pumped storage dam levels, Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented at 07:00 this morning until 14:00," the utility said.

Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Duvha, Hendrina, Kendal, Kriel, Matimba and Medupi power stations was returned to service. In the same period, a generation unit each at Arnot and Tutuka power stations was taken out of service due to breakdowns. Eskom said on Sunday that daytime load shedding would continue to be suspended due to"consistent available generation capacity", with Stage 3 kicking in from 16:00 until midnight.

"The expected weather conditions may lead to an increase in faults affecting restoration times," Eskom said."However, Eskom technicians are equipped and will attend to the faults and restore supply as soon as possible." Customers should treat appliances as live even during outages, the statement added.

Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 on Tuesday until midnight, while on Wednesday and Thursday, Stage 1 load shedding will be in force from 05:00 until 16:00, followed by Stage 3 from 16:00 until midnight on both days. In the past 24 hours a unit each at Grootvlei, Kriel and Matla power stations returned to service, but at the same time a unit each at Majuba and Tutuka broke down. There has also been a delay in returning a unit to service at Tutuka.

Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until midnight. Eskom said it would publish a full update on Wednesday afternoon.Fewer breakdowns, lower planned maintenance, and lower demand are the reasons for the lower stages of load shedding over recent weeks, says Eskom.
