As some of the unions and employees realise the impact of their actions to the economy and people - Eskom is hopeful they will stop the strike action. Management increases are based on decisions of the board and the executive team.Ngele says when considering increases - Eskom looks at its financial position, as well as the cost of living. Eskom balances all these factors, to determine the increase it can afford, because the power utility wants to retain skilled emplouees. Ngele says the parties were so far apart in negotiations, it was diffiult to find a settlement.
For that reason Eskom declared a deadlock - as there was no prospect of the parties meeting each other.Thulane Ngele general manager of people relations, who is also engaging with labour, weighs in on the strike action.Eskom has asked for an expedited process, to be able to engage with trade unions and settle the matter next week.Oberholzer says that Eskom CEO André De Ruyter engaged with one of the trade unions' leadership.
