SA gets load shedding relief, Eskom sticks to Stage 3
Due to some improvements in the generation capacity over the past 24 hours, Stage 3 load shedding will remain in force until further notice, Eskom announced on Wednesday afternoon.
A generating unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei, Kriel, and Tutuka power stations has been returned to service. During the same period a generating unit each at Lethabo, and two units at Kriel power stations were taken offline for repairs. The return to service of a generating unit each at Hendrina and Medupi power stations is delayed.
Eskom said that over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Arnot Power Station was successfully returned to service. The return to service of a generating unit each at Hendrina, Medupi and Tutuka, power stations has been delayed. The repairs to the damaged towers from Cahora Bassa in Mozambique are continuing and are anticipated to be completed by early next week, Eskom said.
A generating unit each at Camden, Lethabo, Kriel, Majuba and Matimba power stations has been successfully returned to service during this period. Furthermore, the return to service of a generating unit each at Hendrina, Medupi and Tutuka power stations was delayed, and the repairs to the damaged towers from Cahora Bassa is taking longer than anticipated, Eskom said.After 05:00 on Tuesday, load shedding will be reduced to Stage 3 until 16:00. Stage 4 will then be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00 on Wednesday morning, Eskom said.
For bigger projects they we are working on regulations to allow solar and battery storage projects to go through an expedited process. This is for areas of low environmental sensitivity."It is not our intention to introduce blanket exemptions from these provisions."
