Daily loadshedding planned from Monday | News24_Business
Load shedding has been suspended on Sunday, but Stage 2 load will be implemented daily from Monday at 16:00 from 05:00 until further notice, Eskom said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Stage 2 load shedding will also continue to be implemented daily at 16:00 to 05:00 until Monday. "On 23 October 2022, a section of the Kusile Unit 1 flue gas duct exiting the sulphur dioxide absorber failed on the horizontal rubber expansion joint as well as the compensator whilst the unit was on forced shutdown for Flue Gas Desulphurisation recirculating pump repairs," spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said.
Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented every day this week until Friday, while Stage 2 will be implemented nightly until Friday, Eskom said on Tuesday evening. "Eskom will publish a further update on Wednesday afternoon, or as soon as there are any significant changes," spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said.
Stage 2 load shedding will again be implemented on Monday Since Thursday morning, a generating unit each at Arnot, Kendal, Kriel and two units at Tutuka power stations have been returned. Eskom said emergency generation reserves are almost depleted. This includes both diesel and pumped storage dam levels.
The power utility said that stage 3 cuts would be implemented from 05:00 on Monday until 16:00, thereafter increasing to Stage 4 until 05:00 on Tuesday morning. "Currently, there are no units in service at Kusile Power Station due to breakdowns on three units while one unit is out of service on planned maintenance," Eskom said.
"Due to the failure of 2 units at Kendal Power Station and a unit each at Kriel and Arnot power stations, Stage 3 loadshedding has been extended from 05:00 today until further notice," spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said.Stage 2 load shedding extended to Saturday morning "Stage 4 load shedding was implemented at 05:30 due to breakdowns of five generators at five power stations overnight. The load shedding will be implemented until further notice," spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said. More load shedding planned until Wednesday - at least
Some 5 254MW are out on planned maintenance, with another 15 190MW of capacity unavailable due to breakdowns, Eskom said. The last brief respite from load shedding followed the country's worst bout of rolling power cuts on record. South Africa faces another 18 months of regular load shedding and won’t be able to end them until sufficient generating capacity is added to the electricity grid to meet demand, Eskom Chief Operating Officer Jan Oberholzer said.
Eskom announced on Sunday that it aimed to limit load shedding to night-time to have minimal impact on the economy and population. A further update would be provided on Wednesday afternoon. "Since yesterday afternoon a generation unit each at Camden, Grootvlei, Hendrina, Kendal, Kriel, Majuba and Tutuka power stations have returned to service," spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said. Eskom currently has 5 512MW on planned maintenance, with another 13 484MW out due to breakdowns. Load shedding will be maintained at Stage 4 until Thursday at 05:00, whereafter it will be reduced to Stage 3 until 05:00 on Saturday morning, Eskom announced on Wednesday.
"We currently have 6 647MW on planned maintenance, while another 14 692MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns."Stage 4 load shedding is back 'until further notice' On Sunday, Eskom said that the remaining units that suffered breakdowns are anticipated to return to service over the next eight days, while one will remain on planned maintenance.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan will brief the media at 15:00 on Friday on the appointment of a new board for Eskom. Gordhan told MPs on Wednesday that the future of Eskom CEO André de Ruyter and other top executives would be determined by the new board, which will conduct a thorough review of their performance.
"Transferring the fuel to the Gourikwa and Akerlig Open Cycle Gas Turbine stations will take place throughout the weekend to replenish by Monday. Eskom will also use the weekend to replenish the dam levels at the pumped storage schemes, which have been utilised extensively to complement generation capacity."
"Eskom has to preserve the low diesel levels at Gourikwa, while delivery to Ankerlig will take time to replenish as it is done by road tankers. The power utility said it is still experiencing constraints from its diesel suppliers, and that is affecting the availability of bulk diesel at the Ankerlig and Gourikwa Open Cycle Gas Turbines. The two gas plants have a combined capacity of 2 000 MW.
"The load shedding over the weekend will be used to replenish the pumped storage dam levels, which have been utilised extensively over the past week." "Eskom apologises for the continued and unfortunate load shedding, which is implemented only as a last resort in view of the shortage of generation capacity and the need to attend to breakdowns.
Since Monday afternoon, four generation units at four power stations were taken offline for emergency repairs, it added - namely a generating unit each at Arnot, Lethabo, Kendal and Majuba power stations."Eskom apologises for the continued and unfortunate loadshedding, which is implemented only as a last resort in view of the shortage of generation capacity and the need to attend to breakdowns.
"The aim is to sign the first power supply agreement during the course of the current week, and for the power to start flowing through the grid as soon as possible," Eskom said in a statement.Energy crisis will get worse, analyst warns as load shedding cuts Ramaphosa trip short It has also pointed out that generation by the sector will, for the moment, primarily focus on relieving pressure on the grid from energy-intensive users, rather than selling third-party generated electricity.
