In the midst of speculation around Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford, United have had a relatively good pre-season without the player so far, having won three of their four friendly fixtures, including a 4-0 victory over rivals Liverpool.Ten Hag has been tasked with transforming the side following their worst season in Premier League history, in which they finished with their lowest-ever points tally of 58 points.

The club has brought in three players so far in this window, namely Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez, as the Dutch tactician looks to mould the team in his vision. It has now emerged that a big incentive for the 52-year to succeed was included in his contract, withclaiming that the former Ajax Amsterdam head coach is set to pocket a tidy £3 million bonus payment if his side qualifies for the 2023/24 edition of the UEFA Champions League.

It is said the manager is paid £9 million per season in Manchester, a figure that is reportedly less than half what Manchester City pay Pep Guardiola each campaign. It is further claimed the Red Devils could miss out on as much £90 million if they miss out on another season of the Champions League, while they will also forfeit £25 million of their £75 million -a-season 10-year sponsorship deal with adidas if they fail to qualify for 2023/24 tournament.
